There’s Baby Gear For Everything – Strollers Included!

Wow! When it comes to baby gear, strollers are certainly found in a wide variety of shapes, size, features and benefits. When narrowing down your ideal baby gear stroller, first consider the type of baby transportation you desire.

Perhaps you have in mind something to transport baby and gear along the lines of a traditional stroller. Then again, having more than one stroller might be your best bet. One for everyday use and a lighter model for traveling.

Here are some basic models to choose from. As previously mentioned, there really is no limit on the various features – and prices – for baby gear strollers on the market today!

Seat-Carrier Frame Strollers

These models are made for newborns who aren’t quite capable of sitting up on their own yet. Because of that, this type of baby gear doesn’t have an adjustable seat. In fact, there’s no seat! It lays flat and designed to transport an infant car seat for any strolling you want to do. No waking up the baby, just transfer the car seat straight to the stroller and off you go!

Combo Strollers

Combination strollers – or Combos – are a carriage and stroller in one. This type of baby gear can be used with a brand new infant. They are designed to hold your baby flat in either a bassinet or infant car seat.

In theory, you can use this type of stroller from birth up through the toddler years. (Supports around 40 pounds). As the baby gets older, you can use the adjustable seat attachment for appropriate sitting configuration. These models can get rather pricey though costing up to close to $900. But for this amount you get plenty of options like extra storage for all that baby gear and canopies for sun and rain protection.

Travel System Strollers

For pure convenience, these units are great! Babies who aren’t capable of sitting up can be whisked along right in their car seat, which securely fastens to the stroller. When it’s time to head for the car, just lift the seat off the stroller and snap it into the car’s safety belt system. Very convenient!

Traditional Carriages

These ‘old school’ types of strollers are still around. They often have spoked wheels and lots of room for baby and for baby gear. Carriages are ideal for newborns and some models have removable bassinets that become ‘carrying cots”

The bad news is that carriages are large, cumbersome and not very maneuverable. They are especially awkward to use in crowed city environments where you may encounter numerous obstacles to contend with. Still, if ‘old school’ appeals to you, these models are big and roomy and a bit nostalgic for yesteryear.

Traditional Baby Strollers

This is the ‘everything including the kitchen sink’ category! Traditional strollers range from lightweight models all the way to massive, industrial-strength designs.

The ‘ironman’ models are built heavy-duty with deep compartments and plenty of room. They have built in shock absorbers on all the wheels and are made to take plenty of punishment. But they are bulky. Firm, stable, but a bit massive.

There are numerous features found in traditional strollers like snack trays, plenty of baby gear storage, one-handed folding capabilities, and adjustable seating. These are truly all-in-one models and may be designed to accommodate bassinets and car seats. But they do tend to be a bit on the heavy side so traveling with them is more of a task.

Umbrella Strollers

Umbrella strollers are named after their handles which are very similarity to those on an umbrella. These strollers are extremely lightweight and truly convenient for traveling. Most models fold easily but the ride can be a bit harsh (depending on the terrain). They make a great second stroller and the cost is very reasonable.

All-Terrain Strollers

And speaking of terrain, we do like to take our babies EVERYWHERE we go! Including off the beaten path. This is where an all-terrain stroller comes in handy

These strollers are tough and can take the punishment due to oversized bicycle-like tires. And yes, they are inflatable! Plus there are three of them. Riding on air smoothes out those bumpy ‘off road’ treks. Plus they are capable of handling heavier loads which makes them ideal for ‘larger’ babies and also when you’re hauling around extra baby gear.

Jogging Strollers

And since we are an on-the-go bunch, there are strollers specially designed for active parents who want to include their babies with them on their runs.

A jogging stroller is a 3-wheeled apparatus with large, air-filled tires. These strollers have extra long handles which positions the stroller a little further out in front from the runner so jogging legs have room to run and not hindered by the stroller frame.

Safety features on this kind of stroller include a front brake and a wrist strap so everything stays under control at all times. Very important. Their rugged design enables the stroller to go off road, similar to an all-terrain stroller.

As you can see, there are many, many baby gear stroller options to accommodate your lifestyle. From traditional carriages, to all-in-one travel units, lightweight umbrella strollers to heavy duty models for active families. You’re sure to find the right baby gear to complement your individual style and baby transportation needs.
